Types of doctor
Career as a doctor is
very rewarding as it offers a wide range of opportunities. There are doctors
specialized to treat specific organs, animals, and diseases. After MBBS degree,
they can either start with their own nursing homes or they can work for both
private and government hospitals.
General
Physician: The most commonly found doctor in
every hospital, camp, and locality is a general physician. They are the ones
who do the basic treatment to identify the basic issue of the patient and then refer
them to the respective specialized doctors. They can prescribe you the basic
medication.
ENT
Specialist: An ENT specialist is a doctor who
specializes in Ear, Nose, and Throat related issues. They examine these parts
of the body and then diagnose and treat them accordingly. They also diagnose
issues related to speech and hearing deformities of children.
Dentist:
Dentist is someone who treats every issue related to your teeth, a dentist is
someone who has specialization in treating teeth, gums and related problems.
Dentists are experts in diagnosing root canal, wisdom teeth, silver or gold
filling.
Cardiologist:
They deal with various cardiac cases; they look at your ECG, TMT, Eco- Cardio
and understand your heart condition. Accordingly they treat your heart to
prevent cardiac arrest.
Psychiatrists:
They are doctors for mind; they treat with human psychology and mind, to find
out the causes for their mental issues. It is not always very prominent that
one needs a psychologist, but it is a good practice to go for checkups
sometimes.
Pediatrician: Pediatricians are doctors whose area
of specialization generally involves infants, children, adolescents and young
adults. It has been found that Pediatricians are the major source of primary
health care provider from birth to almost till the age of 18 years.
Oncologists: The study of Cancer is termed
as Oncology and doctors who specializes and treats cancer and provides
medical care to patients diagnosed with cancer are termed as Oncologists.
Neurologist:
Neurologists deal with the human body anatomy and disorder in the nervous
system. If you ever have a nervous breakdown, then you need to see a
neurologist.
Steps to Become a
Doctor
There are a
few important steps that can be followed to know how to become doctor after 12th;
here we explain those steps in detail:
Make a Decision: Before you start pursuing your career in medicine,
you must make sure that you know what your interests are, what subject
combinations do you need to take in class 12, and what courses you are eligible
for in order to become a doctor. Even after MBBS, you need to choose between
various specializations that are offered in MD, based on your area of interest.
A career as a doctor is often demanding and stressful at times, you must have
the zeal and motivation to work for the people even in stressful conditions.
Choose the Subjects: The first and the foremost step is to choose the
correct subjects in class 10+2, such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology
predominantly. These are the best subject combinations to take up medicine as a
career option. You need to be very sure that you have an interest and basic
command over these subjects, only then you can do higher studies in
medicine.
Prepare for NEET: After appearing for 10+2 one can appear for the NEET examination and only after qualifying in NEET one would be able
to start with their MBBS Course. After
qualifying for the NEET examination, every student would be given a particular
college through counseling where they can pursue MBBS.
Choose the College: If you are aiming
to get admission in government colleges then you will have to score high in
NEET. If your score is low then you can opt for any private Medical College,
which accepts your marks. Experts and professionals say it is always better to
take admission in Govt. colleges as they have the best faculty, a lower MBBS
course fee, and well developed labs.
Qualify MBBS : Appearing for NEET and taking admission in the best medical
college is just the beginning of the journey. This journey is a 5 year and 5
months long that has to be completed with a lot of dedication and patience. The
5 year medical course consists of several theoretical and practical classes
along with one year of compulsory internship.
